Everything Will Be Alright in the End

I keep in mind a handful of inspiring life quotes that act as guides or quotes to live by. They capture the essence of who I am and my philosophy of living.

“Everything will be all right in the end… if it’s not all right then it’s not yet the end.” ~Dev Patel (Sonny) in the film, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Everything will be alright in the end. I like the sound of that phrase. It resonates with my optimistic outlook on life. And my life experiences reflect the truth of this saying, though, I admit, being a positive thinker I tend to find the positive in nearly all situations.

From a spiritual standpoint, everything will be alright in the end tells me to be patient, accepting, and confident that my world is unfolding as it should. Even when nasty events occur, which they do to all of us, myself included, it’s no big deal.

To me, these are just experiences. Some experiences are wonderful, others are terrible. The contrasts are what makes life such an adventure.

Eveyrthing Will Be Alright in the End

Wouldn’t it be great though if we never experienced pain and heartache? Probably not, despite how attractive that appears at first glance. Humans have the ability to get used to the circumstances of our lives. It’s called hedonic adaptation. We adapt to and take for granted, the circumstances of our lives very quickly. We would take for granted an endless stream of pleasant events, and would probably be bored and restless looking for excitement.

I’ve gone through life situations I didn’t like and wouldn’t want to repeat—as I’m sure you have too. But would I change things if I had that ability? Maybe not. I am who I am as a result of these experiences, all the experiences. So my philosophy is an echo of the Serenity Prayer—change what I can, accept what I can’t change, and hope for the wisdom to know the difference.

I believe my life is unfolding just as it should, and the end of my life will find all my experiences, those wonderfully joyous and brutally sad as well as those inspiring and devastating, will result in a perfect conclusion to my life. Life’s experiences are meant to run a full gamut, from sad to happy, from terrifying to sublime, from frustrating to satisfying. The contrasts, though often not enjoyable in the moment, are what brings richness to life.

The relief I feel when the biopsy of a growth removed is judged benign, perfectly balances the fear I felt when the lump was first discovered. Would I prefer to have missed the entire situation? Sure, who wouldn’t. But it’s life, and it will be alright in the end.

Stay Focused with this Phrase

My belief that my soul is immortal is captured perfectly by “Everything will be alright in the end..if it’s not right then it’s not the end .”  It denotes hope, optimism, and universal perfection, warts and all. It’s a great quote to live by.

By the way, the character Sonny from The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was so well done. An energetic, optimistic, young Indian man interacting with a group of seniors from the US and England. This is really an excellent movie, featuring some outstanding senior actors and actresses, including the young man, Dev Patel, who assures us, “Everything will be alright in the end.”
